After a spate of yet more political embarrassment, Chris Christie no doubt wanted to let his hair down at the Mets game on Tuesday night.
But the crowds at Citi Field had other ideas.
They booed Christie, the unpopular Governor for New Jersey, after he caught a foul ball while sitting in the third row in the third inning without even getting out of his seat.
Christie, still sporting a glow from sunbathing on his private beach over July 4 weekend, celebrated the left-hand catch with awkward high-fives and an enthusiastic handshake with a friend before turning to give the ball to a child who was sitting in the rows behind him.
It wasn’t enough to spare him the wrath of fans who jeered as he appeared on the stadium’s screens.
