Calling off a wedding at short notice is as heartbreaking as it is stressful – but one woman has made lemonade when life gave her lemons.
Among other problems, Sarah Cummins suddenly found herself with a venue and enough food to be served to 170 people when she cancelled her wedding to Logan Araujo a week before they were due to tie the knot.
But instead of wasting a huge amount of food, she decided to do a pretty great thing.
The 25-year-old pharmacy student of Indiana, USA, told the Indianapolis Star that she is hosting a huge dinner for homeless people.
She said: ‘We’re doing all the same stuff, just arranging the tables differently, so there’s no head table for the bridal party, no cake table or gift table.
‘I will at least have some kind of happy memory to pull from.’
Sarah did not reveal why the wedding was called off, but the event at the Ritz Charles hotel was due to cost $30,000 (£22,900), and the venue was not refundable.
But rather than be consumed by sorrow, she has poured her energy into helping the needy.
