We all know ice cream is bad for us, but that doesn’t stop millions across the world indulging in it as a sweet treat.
But now there may be a way to make everyone’s favourite dessert a little healthier as a recipe for dairy-free coffee ice cream has gone viral on visual bookmarking website Pinterest.
The very simple recipe, which has been shared 61,000 times, contains just four ingredients and doesn’t require an ice cream maker.
And unusually, it calls for you to use fresh bananas as the base instead of cream.
The recipe, which only takes an hour to make, was published on the My Crazy Good Life blog by author Becca Ludlum, from Tucson, Arizona, earlier this year.
It’s proved so popular on social media because it can be eaten as part of the popular 21 Day Fix diet that claims to help people lose 15 pounds in just three weeks.
But Becca warns that while it is certainly healthier than other ice creams, she wouldn’t consider it a health food.
She wrote: ‘I’m not going to say it’s healthy, but… it’s definitely a healthier ice cream choice.’
The recipe makes enough for two scoops each for two people – though Becca admits that this portion would only be enough for her.
It fits into the 21 Day Fix diet, which has a colour coded container system designed to help slimmers know how much and exactly what type of foods they should eat.
Becca says she considers this a ‘yellow container’ treat swap.
