Earlier this week, R&B singer Kehlani was the subject of widespread social media rumors. A photo was posted of Kehlani and her ex-boyfriend in bed together, and people thought/assumed she was cheating on her current boyfriend Kyrie Irving. Twitter was especially brutal. Then on Monday, Kehlani was hospitalized for an apparent suicide attempt. She posted a photo on her Instagram from her hospital bed with the message:“Today I wanted to leave this earth. Being completely selfish for once. Never thought I’d get to such a low point. But… Don’t believe the blogs you read… No one was cheated on and I’m not a bad person… Everyone is hurt and everyone is in a place of misunderstanding…” After that, she deactivated her Twitter and Instagram.
It was a sad story at every level, and I didn’t want to cover it out of respect for what Kehlani is going through. It just seemed like the decent thing to do, to just let this young woman and her family deal with this moment privately. Chris Brown does not have a similar sense of decency. Chris Brown decided to get on Twitter and mock Kehlani’s suicide attempt. Because reasons. You can see Chris’s Twitter here (I’m not embedding the tweets because I really do think he’s going to take them down). This is what he wrote:
There is no attempting suicide. Stop flexing for the gram. Doing sh-t for sympathy so them comments under your pics don’t look so bad
OK IM DONE. Guess she gone have to watch the games from a real “box” now. “THE TELEVISION” #OHB “OUTTA HERE BIH”
I’ll be the BIGGEST PIECE OF 💩. But ima ride for my Homies regardless. KYRIE is probably one of the only good guys left. IDGAF!!!

You know what this reminded me of? Not the fact that Chris Brown once nearly killed his then-girlfriend. Not his multiple incidents of violence. Not his general douchebaggery, or the fact that he has stalked and harassed another ex-girlfriend. I’m reminded of how Chris pleaded with the public for sympathy after he got caught, after he was asking to be forgiven for all of his violence and shadiness. Chris always made it sound like he was the real victim, like people should feel sorry for him because of all of the stuff he’s been through. Which makes it especially rich that he’s accusing someone else of “flexing for the gram” and “doing sh-t for sympathy.” Anyway… what did you expect? Chris Brown is such a loser.
