So she kind of broke the Internet.
Kylie Jenner’s Lip Kit has been a sweeping success since its launch last fall, which means that every time the matte liquid lipsticks are restocked on KylieCosmetics.com, the website instantly shuts down due to high traffic, and inventory is sold out within minutes. We know this not because we try to buy them ourselves, but because Jenner, being the avid social media user that she is, documents these moments on her Snapchat account. So when Jenner announced on Monday afternoon that she would be releasing more Lip Kits at 4 p.m. PST — surprise! — they were all gone by 4:16 p.m. PST. And, according to a womanly voice on speaker phone, with whom Kylie documented her conversation on Snapchat, she broke Google Analytics. “Can we fix it?” she asks the phone with the same genuine concern of a young child who’s wondering if Santa Claus is real. For the record, we never got a clear answer from the unknown lady.
On Snapchat, Jenner claims that about 100,000 people were already logged into her beauty line’s website 10 minutes before the products were released into cyber space. At 4 p.m. on the dot, the number of loyal customers doubled. Technical difficulties ensued and Jenner insisted that her fans keep checking the website, even though it was going in and out of service. “This is a serious problem,” she tells her laughing assistant. You’re totally right, Kylie. Shopify bots are no joke.
Jenner lamented that with more than 200,000 people online, it was just “too much for Google” to track. “You literally broke Google,” another mysterious woman told Jenner. (But NOT the Internet, specifically, because that’s Kim’s job.) The products apparently sold out quicker than ever and, but the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner family had a positive outlook, telling her Snapchat minions, “Nobody be mad or sad.” She also wishes that she could be behind the computer doing the “technical shit” but she doesn’t know how. “I’m so happy for the people who got through. I’m really, really sorry if you didn’t get it,” said Jenner to her iPhone.
However, there’s still hope. Jenner promises that almost every week she’ll be restocking her Lip Kit goods. Although, we have a feeling she’ll be reassuring her shoppers through the website’s technical difficulties with as much frequency while the Lip Kits continue to fly off the e-commerce shelves. So good luck with that!
