On Wednesday, Time magazine announced that the women behind the #MeToo movement were their ‘Person of the Year’.
But as soon as the issue’s cover started spreading online, critics started asking one question over and over: ‘Where’s Rose McGowan?’
‘Where is @rosemcgowan as one of ‘The Silence Breakers’ you morons at Time Magazine?’ Twitter user @notmyname02 asked.
‘I don’t understand why Rose McGowan wasn’t on the cover,’ @TheatreChick76 added.
McGowan was one of the first actresses to publicly accuse Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault this fall.
Rose McGowan (pictured on October 27) didn’t make Time’s Person of the Year cover, despite being among the first actresses to speak out against Harvey Weinstein
Instead, fellow Weinstein accuser Ashley Judd (back row left), Taylor Swift (back row right), and three not-famous women involved in the movement made the cut
That New York Times article led to dozens of more women coming forward with similar stories against Weinstein – a movement that ended his career and launched multiple criminal investigations.
The Weinstein scandal had a snowball effect in Hollywood, and the entertainment industry at large. Women, many of them famous, started speaking out about their experiences of sexual harassment and assault – bringing down the careers of Charlie Rose, Matt Lauer, Kevin Spacey, Louis CK and many more.
